After seeing an article about four centenarian birthdays in Mission, a local kindergarten teacher had her students write the seniors birthday cards to celebrate their first 100 days in school.

Hosanna Vaughn, a teacher at Cornerstone Christian School, reached out to Chartwell Carrington House in late January for the class project. Her 10 students will be celebrating their first 100 days in education on Feb. 18.

“It was really neat for them to learn about being 100 years old! They even asked one question each,” Vaughn said.

The seniors – Evelina Walter, Stan Moore, Elsie Hellstrom and Mary Gjernes – have a combined age of 404, and all had January birthdays. Chartwell Carrington House staff hosted a combined birthday party for them on Jan. 25.
