The local arts council is among of the 300 artists and cultural organizations from 94 communities approved to receive a share of BC Arts Council grants totalling $7.5 million.
100 Mile & District Arts Council president Gordon Hoglund says this $3,647 BC Arts Council grant, which has been at this level for a number of years, is much needed.

Together with the joint funding the local arts council receives from the District of 100 Mile House and the Cariboo Regional District, this grant continues to help members maintain their commitment to member groups and to fund their three annual scholarships awarded to local graduates for taking arts-related courses in post-secondary institutions.
These latest awards are the result of applications examined through the BC Arts Council’s independent peer-review process between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2016.
The Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development (CSCD) recently announced the province is investing approximately $60 million in arts and culture in 2017-18, including $24 million through the BC Arts Council and about $17.5 million through community gaming grants.
CSCD Minister Peter Fassbender says recipients of the latest round of BC Arts Council funding Supporting arts service organizations and community arts councils, in particular, helps leverage governments investment in B.C.’s creative economy in “virtually every corner of British Columbia.”
With 24,800 artists, B.C. has more artists per capita than any other province.
