The 100 Mile Free Press is challenging all South Cariboo school groups, classes, sports teams, bands, theatre groups and more for a chance to win $300 towards a field trip as well as a full page in the newspaper to help you promote your group and raise funds towards a field trip.
“We want to see what creative uses students can come up with for a newspaper,” says publisher Martina Dopf. “Whether it’s painting, paper mache, origami or emulates the work of Chie Hitotsuyama, we’d like you to show off your creative skills.”
Dopf says she was inspired to organize the contest for the 2018 National Newspaper week.
“Newspapers matter more than ever and we would like to get the youths more involved and not only show them the importance of community journalism but also show them how much fun can be had with newspapers.”
All entries must be from school groups at one of the South Cariboo schools in School District 27. Entries or images of the project along with a description must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 to the Free Press office along with a brief description of your group, upcoming field trip and contact information. While there will be only one winner, second and third will receive honorary mention in a newspaper article.
