Nanaimo RCMP are on the lookout for a gargoyle that has gone amiss from its home in south Nanaimo.
A concrete gargoyle named Petey was stolen sometime early Wednesday, May 27. According to police, a suspect or suspects would have needed to put in a lot of effort to steal the statue that has guarded a home on Nicol Street for years.
The gargoyle’s owner told police the thief or thieves kicked out a panel of a wooden fence that surrounds his backyard, then made their way to the deck and managed to carry away the 100-pound gargoyle, which is about two feet tall with a two-and-a-half-foot wingspan.
Investigators are asking anyone with information on the gargoyle’s whereabouts or the theft to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
