The 15th Annual Salmon and Mushroom Festival featured fun, food and festivities

The fish printing was a big hit with the children at the 15th annual Salmon and Mushroom Festival this past weekend.

The Q’ul-lhanumutsun Aquatic Resources Society provided fish and supplies for this unique arts project. A fish was laid on the table and children brushed on paint and sparkles. Then, a volunteer would assist children to lay a blank piece of paper over the fish, press it with a roller and lift the print off. Results were awe-inspiring and the children were delighted.

“The children are responding really well,” said Jordan Maher, Executive Director of the society. She was one of the volunteers and happily assisted the eager children. Chad Ormond, a biologist with the society, was also happy to lend a hand.

In the downstairs portion of the festival. attendees found many mushroom-y delights, including a cafe that served a selection of salmon and mushroom inspired dishes. Ingeborg Woodsworth had her tables of mushrooms set up and festival goers happily engaged her in conversation about anything and everything mushroom-related. There were also a number of vendors selling salmon and mushroom inspired wares at the festival, as well as a band upstairs and a strolling minstrel downstairs.
