Residents of Penticton were out in full force on May 25 for the Walk to Defeat Depression and helped the Mental Wellness Centre raise $14,271.

According to a Facebook post from the Mental Wellness Centre, all proceeds from the annual event will be directed to the Martin House Activity Program, which is for youths and adults aged 16 to 30 who are experiencing mental health challenges.

Organizers thanked volunteers and the members of city council who showed up to show their support for the initiative.

“The Defeat Depression campaign aims to reduce stigma and build a strong mental health network across Canada,” states event organizer Obi Oniah on the Facebook post. “This campaign is about communities and families coming together to address depression and other mood disorders. With conversation and collaboration, we can help to create an environment that encourages people to come forward for early intervention and treatment.”
