As of press time Tuesday, 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron at 19 Wing Comox was still helping to search for a missing pilot in the Interior.
The helicopter went missing Friday evening between Hope and Kelowna.
“Our efforts are continuing as we take advantage of favourable weather in the search area,” said Capt. David Burneau, searchmaster from 442 Squadron. “Time is of the essence and we have received additional civilian and military aircraft to aid our efforts today.”
A CC-130 Hercules aircraft from 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron at 17 Wing Winnipeg, arrived Monday morning to support the search. The Royal Canadian Air Force has also provided two CC-115 Buffalo fixed-wing Search and Rescue aircraft and two CH-149 Cormorant helicopters.
“Despite the heavily forested and mountainous areas in which we are searching, the specially trained … spotters flying aboard military aircraft have been invaluable in helping our personnel search the region,” said Capt. Burneau.
