A hiker was airlifted to hospital Friday afternoon aboard a Cormorant helicopter from 442 Squadron in Comox after injuring her leg on the West Coast Trail.
The hiker injured herself on the wet and slippery trails in the Carmanah Point area.
Shortly after 1 p.m., the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre Victoria received a call from Parks Canada and requested the helicopter to evacuate the injured woman from a remote beach at Cribs Creek.
“The lighthouse keeper from Carmanah Point had stayed with the injured hiker and her partner until our arrival and we were able to find the three without much difficulty, despite having only an eighth of a mile visibility along the coastline,” said Maj. Troy Maa, aircraft commander.
The hiker was subsequently flown to Victoria General Hospital in stable condition and good spirits.
