Alberta angler Ian Conklin, in his second trip to Prince Rupert to fish, landed what might be the largest chinook salmon caught so far this year on the North Coast.

“I thought my arm was going to break off,” Conklin said. “It took about 25, 35 minutes but it felt like four hours. It was a tremendous sense of relief when they put the net underneath that thing.”

Terry Weaver of Terry’s Charters said the 65 lb. (29.5kg) catch is the largest of his career beating a previous 60-pounder.

The IGFA All-Tackle world record for chinook is 97 pounds, four ounces, (44 kg) caught in Alaska’s Kenai River.
