The annual Thunder Alley Stomp’n Toy Run once again roared into Barriere on Saturday, Aug. 24, this year with 71 bikes participating. The parking lot in front of Barriere AG Foods and the IDA Pharmacy was filled to overflowing with all manner of rods and bikes, plus a huge crowd that had turned out for the event.
All proceeds raised from the event are kept in the community, being earmarked for the Barriere Food Bank in support of the Nicky’s Red Wagon Fund, and the Nicky Grummet Scholarship.
Toy Run participants delivered a mountain of toys, goods and other donations to the Food Bank, helping those who are in need, and bringing a brighter Christmas to many.
Organizers Barb and Paul Morris led the ride, and then invited everyone over for family friendly bike games, bicycle games for kids, and a hilarious afternoon of fun and good sportsmanship on Bradford’s field. The whole event wrapped up at the Barriere Legion with a delicious steak dinner and dance.
The Food Bank reported receiving 508 lbs of food, 60 stuffies, 140 gifts, and $8,900, all courtesy of the Toy Run. A concession for the Toy Run at the AG Foods parking lot and at the bike games raised $1500 for the Barriere Skatepark fund.
