City of Penticton staff cleaned up a dumpster full of garbage at the Esplanade Park on Monday where 20 people had been living.
“We had issued notices to sites last week reminding any persons residing in the Esplanade Park that we would be doing this (Monday). There are currently approximately 20 people regularly living in the park,” said Tina Siebert, bylaw services supervisor.

City staff said they found seven full-sized camp sites, heaps of garbage, discarded materials and approximately 75 sharps. All material that was discarded or abandoned over the winter months.
“We understand most of these people will likely return to the park but we wanted a full inventory of the number of camps, persons residing and overall condition of the park as the cold weather shelters are now closed. This is also needed in the event of an emergency,” said Siebert.
