More than 250 people braved the arrival of a winter chill Tuesday morning to participate in the Remembrance Day ceremony held at the City Park Cenotaph.
Local veterans marched into the cenotaph grounds joined by local military, cadets, firefighters and RCMP, led by the Royal Canadian Legion branch 26 colour guard, to mark the opening of the ceremony.
Legion member Michael Loewen led the ceremony along with Rev. Dick Fletcher, who gave both a prayer for those now serving in the military and a blessing for those who served their country and have passed on.
The Cenotaph Guard of Honour was provided by BC Dragoons members, while bugler Dennis Colpitts performed his rendering of the Last Post, followed by two minutes of silence.
Other ceremony participants included singer Susan Dickson, the Kelowna City Band, Pipes and Drums of the Kelowna Pipe Band Society, Okanagan Youth Choir and Dr. Knox Middle School Youth Choir,
A Remembrance Day service was also held in Rutland at the Lions Park Cenotaph organized by the local branch of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans.
