(L-r) Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital Auxiliary representative Marg Anderson presents Brian Smith with a $5,000 cheque while Georgina Spires and Lea Smith look on from behind. He appears to be having trouble believing it’s not a joke.

Smith had the winning ticket in the Auxiliary’s 50/50 raffle. Mayor John Harwood drew the ticket during the Auxiliary’s annual Christmas luncheon on Dec. 1. All the tickets were sold out by mid-November. The money raised will be used to purchase new equipment for the hospital.
