A sign promoting the annual Abbotsford Agrifair has been vandalized for the fourth time this year, and the board of directors has had enough.
Board president Bob Street said it costs about $250 to fix the damage each time, and that’s a big hit for a non-profit society, especially during fundraising challenges during the pandemic.
“Every dollar we create is rolled back into supporting future fairs, which are geared to being family-friendly events,” he said.
“Over 2020, the damages have cost the association in excess of $1,000. That is a lot of money for our association to lose.”
The sign is located on Peardonville Road near Highway 1. Under the words “Abbotsford Agrifair,” it normally says “Thank you! See you next year!”

Street passed the sign on Saturday, Dec. 26 and it appeared as usual, but he received a few emails the following day to say that it had been tampered with.
As in the three previous vandalisms, the word “thank” had been covered with a sticker that spelled out the f-word.
Not only is there a cost attached to fix the damage, but there are concerns that the ongoing vandalism could result in the sign no longer being allowed there.
Street hopes that by making the matter public, the vandals will realize the costs associated with prank and cease the behaviour.
