An Abbotsford emergency weather response drop-in centre is being funded to the tune of $1.5 million.
The shelter will provide 15 beds in extreme heat and cold, for those experiencing homelessness. It’s part of the Abbotsford Homeless Prevention and Response System, and will be run by Archway Community Services.
The province announced the funding Aug. 12. The $1.5 million is joint funding from both the province and federal government.
The City of Abbotsford applied to the Union of British Columbian Municipalities for grant funding for this project in partnership with Archway Community Services.
The City of Mission is also receiving $700,000 in joint funding for the Mobile Mission project.
That project aims to help address Mission’s specific needs for available mobile laundry, showers, storage and bathrooms for people experiencing unsheltered homelessness in camp settings or unserviced, non-central areas. This funding includes paying for two staff.
