With British Columbians set to vote this fall on whether to ditch the first-past-the-post system, the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce will host a forum this month on the issue.

Voters are being asked whether the province should adopt a proportional representation method or stick with the current first-past-the-post system.

British Columbians will also be asked to rank three different systems: dual member proportional, mixed member proportional, and rural-urban proportional.

Voters will receive a package in the main in late October.

The Abbotsford chamber will host an information forum on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. in the University of the Fraser Valley’s lecture theatre (B101). The event will feature a panel discussion moderated by UFV professor Hamish Telford, and include speakers from the two official representative groups: VotePRBC and NoBCProRep. The audience will also have a chance to ask questions.

The forum is open to the general public and there is no charge.
