Abbotsford will soon be home to a new recovery house, after council approved an application to create a bylaw for supportive recovery use (SRU) for 33416 George Ferguson Way.

Abbotsford will soon be home to a new recovery house, after council approved an application to create a bylaw for supportive recovery use (SRU) for 33416 George Ferguson Way.

The application was submitted by VisionQuest Recovery Society of Surrey.

Some neighbours raised concerns, but the vote for the city’s 11th SRU was unanimous.

“As mayor, I have received no (complaint) calls from neighbours of other SRUs,” said George Peary.

Coun. John Smith said things have improved since the city began regulating recovery houses.

“It was chaos … there were boarding houses with all sorts of grief … now we can deal with unauthorized houses.”
