A crowd estimated at 3,000 gathered for the Remembrance Day ceremony on Tuesday in Abbotsford.

The ceremony, organized by the Abbotsford branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, was held at the cenotaph in Thunderbird Memorial Square under bright skies and blustery winds.

During the ceremony, the names of those who had died in battle were read, and the 861 Silverfox  Squadron band performed along with the Pacific Mennonite Children’s Choir.

A large contingent of government and local agencies and groups laid wreaths during the ceremony.

Members of the Abbotsford Police emergency response team were stationed on nearby rooftops, as a precautionary measure following the recent killings of two soldiers in Ontario and Quebec.

Remembrance Day is observed on Nov. 11 to recall the end of the First World War in 1918. Hostilities  formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. For more photos visit our Facebook page.
