Abbotsford man, 35, dies after parking lot confrontation in Alberta

Incident takes place Saturday outside of hardware store in Grande Prairie

A 35-year-old Abbotsford man died Saturday following a confrontation in the parking lot of a Home Hardware store in Grande Prairie, Alta.

RCMP said the man, whose name has not been released, was leaving the store just before 1 p.m. and confronted a man who was “interfering with his vehicle.”

Police say the vehicle owner tried to apprehend the suspect as he attempted to flee in another car. A collision occurred in the parking lot, and the Abbotsford man was seriously injured, resulting in him being airlifted to an Edmonton hospital, where he died.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 17 at noon.

Investigators do not yet have anyone in custody, and police have not released any other details.

The Edmonton RCMP major crimes unit and Grande Prairie RCMP general investigation section are continuing to investigate.
