Abbotsford options to beat the heat

City of Abbotsford opening cooling centres, extending hours for spray parks to combat heat wave

Abbotsford residents hoping to beat the heat have a few new local options to combat the hot weather.

Cooling centres are scheduled to run for most of the afternoon today, and there are now four local options for those outside.

Locations include: 2575 Gladwin Road (Seven Oaks Alliance Church parking lot), 2495 West Railway Street (city-owned parking lot), 3440 Mount Lehman Road (Heritage Alliance Church) and 35190 DeLair Road (Cascade Community Church).

The Gladwin and West Railway centres are open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Mount Lehman location is open from noon to 6 p.m. and the DeLair centre is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

People are also welcome to visit the following locations to cool off: 33355 Bevan Avenue (Abbotsford Library, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.), 32320 George Ferguson Way (Clearbrook Library, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.), 5875 Mount Lehman Road (Mount Lehman Library, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday) and 32388 Veterans Way (The Reach Gallery Museum, noon to 5 p.m. on Tuesday).

The city of Abbotsford has also expanded spray park hours during the heat wave, with the following spray parks open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.: SpudMurphy (32285 Hillcrest Avenue), Mill Lake (2310 Emerson Street) and Shadbolt Park (36086 Shadbolt Avenue).

Abbotsford’s Tradex, located at 1190 Cornell Street, is also open today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for anyone struggling to stay cool.
