Abbotsford playgrounds to re-open Monday

City urges public to bring hand-sanitizer and maintain physical distancing

Ready. Set. Play.

After two months, playgrounds across Abbotsford are set to re-open next week.

The city says it will begin re-opening more than 70 playgrounds on Monday. The move won’t be instant however, with the city warning that it may take a few days for warning tape to be removed from every playground.

The move doesn’t include playgrounds on school property, although with classes set to resume next week, an announcement on that front may be coming soon.

In a press release, the city warned that its playgrounds won’t be regularly cleaned or sanitized.

“Not all playgrounds are in parks with washroom facilities so residents are encouraged to bring their own hand-sanitizer,” a city press release declared. Parents and caregivers are responsible to ensure safety measures are practiced as directed by the Provincial Health Officer of maintaining 2 metres of physical distancing, washing hands for at least 20 seconds before and after use, and staying home if you are not feeling well.”

The city re-opened sports courts last week.
