Abbotsford Police want to talk to three people who were near the scene of a brutal assault at Mill Lake Park on Wednesday morning.

Const. Ian MacDonald said the condition of the 30-year-old victim is improving, and police are continuing to seek information from witnesses and others.

Among these are three people who were approached by a citizen who discovered the injured man.

The first man was approached along South Fraser Way before 4 a.m. and was told there was a body in Mill Lake Park. “Well, you better call police then,” the man responded.

Two others were in a vehicle flagged down shortly after. The man and woman drove into the park area, and the woman called 911 from a payphone.

Police, fire and ambulance crews arrived on scene and found the victim in serious condition on the northeast side of the lake near some benches.

He had apparently been with a group of people during the attack.

The man was first taken to Abbotsford Regional Hospital and was airlifted from there to another Lower Mainland hospital.

Police have released no other information at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5224 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
