Abbotsford public schools will be open today, to the dismay of some in the city. An outcry for a snow-day has been launched in the form of an online petition, endorsed by thousands.
The change.org petition is named “snow days for sd34” and has received over 2,700 online signatures in under 12 hours, with a goal of 5,000.
All public schools in Abbotsford were open yesterday, Jan. 13, while all private schools, as well as the University of the Fraser Valley, were closed.
The one exception was Centennial Park Elementary, which sent students home early after the water pipes in the school froze.
The Abbotsford School District created a social media post yesterday asking people to be nicer after they received “hundreds of [messages] full of negative and rude comments” from people who thought schools should have been closed.
Abbotsford’s private schools are open today, however, with the exception of St. John Brebeuf High School.
