AbbotsfordFirst city councillor Sandy Blue has announced that she will seek re-election this fall.
Blue joins fellow AbbotsfordFirst councillors Kelly Chahal and Brenda Falk, who previously announced their intentions to seek a second term on council.
Blue’s candidacy was announced last week by AbbotsfordFirst president Markus Delves to dozens of supporters at Maple Lane Organic Farm and Agriculture Innovation Centre.
“We have accomplished so much in the past four years, including adopting a new governance model and strategic plan,” Blue said in a press release.
“And we have engaged with our community to build a new Official Community Plan that will take our city to 200,000 residents. I am proud of this work and look forward to continue to build upon the strong foundation we have put in place this past term.”
Delves said he and his colleagues are thrilled that Blue is running for re-election.
“Sandy is a tireless advocate for the City of Abbotsford. She is out in the community every day helping move our city forward in a positive direction,” he said.
Blue was first elected to Abbotsford city council in 2014.
Her career history includes serving in senior leadership roles, including six years as assistant vice-president of marketing, sponsorship and brand at HSBC Bank Canada and 25 years at Telus/BC Tel.
She has nine years’ experience in economic development, including two years as business development lead at the Abbotsford International Airport.
Blue also served for the city of Maple Ridge as the manager of strategic economic initiatives and then economic development manager.
Since moving to Abbotsford in 2000, Blue has a long history of community service, which includes service as vice-president of the Abbotsford Police Foundation as well as sitting on the police board.
Blue was previously nominated for the YWCA Women of Distinction Award.
In addition to Chahal and Falk, she joins Couns. Les Barkman, Dave Loewen, and Patricia Ross in seeking re-election on Oct. 20, as well as non-councillor Dave Sidhu.
Mayor Henry Braun will also run in the fall. Gerda Peachey and Eric Nyvall have said they will challenge him.
