There was a multi-car fender bender on Halpin Street this morning (March 2) at approximately 8:20 a.m. One vehicle involved was a school bus, another a city sand truck and several private vehicles.
There were no injuries reported.
City CAO Scott Sommerville says that there were four students on the bus at the time of the accident, but no injuries were reported.
A driver of one of the vehicles, whose vehicle received minor damage, says he came down the hill shortly after the initial accident occurred, tried to brake and couldn’t stop. He slid into a vehicle already stopped.
The hill was cleared by about 10 a.m.
School District No. 6 put out the following statement about the incident.
“This morning a bus traveling up Selkirk hill encountered icy conditions and became stuck on the hill. A bus was dispatched to pick up the students to transport the Selkirk students to the “stairs” and McKim and Lindsay Park students to their schools. During this time, a plow truck coming down Selkirk hill slid into the parked bus. No one was hurt in this incident. The students were off loaded and safely transported to their schools. At all times during this morning’s event student safety was our first priority. School staff will be in contact with the parents of children on this bus. If you have any additional questions please contact the school principal.”
