Accident on West Coast Road sends three to hospital

A near head-on collision on the two-lane stretch of highway

  • Jul. 30, 2019 12:00 a.m.

An accident at the 8200-block of West Coast Road sent three people to the hospital, although all three were reported by bystanders as having walked to the waiting ambulance.

The collision occurred at about 3:30 p.m. when a grey Toyota Corolla, occupied by a female driver and a young girl, and a black Mazda sedan with a single female driver at the wheel, were travelling in opposite directions on West Coast Road and clipped each other’s front ends on the two-lane roadway.

While the accident was not a true head-on collision, it was enough to cause the deployment of airbags in both vehicles.

Both vehicles ended up in the ditch at the side of the roadway.

The accident was attended by the Sooke RCMP, the Otter Point Fire Department and the B.C. Ambulance Service.

Traffic was halted on West Point Road following the accident, but the RCMP was directing alternating traffic by 4 p.m.
