A COMMUNITY activist has filed nomination papers with the city for a spot on city council.
Stacey Tyers, who has lived in Terrace for eight years, works with the Terrace and District Community Services Society and was formerly the executive director of Terrace’s anti-poverty society.
Tyers says she has spent much of her time in Terrace fighting for the rights of low income people.
“Most people know me as a community advocate, fighting for the rights and voices of some of our most vulnerable citizens,” said Tyers. “My work goes far beyond that.
“My work delves into systemic change, in education, in awareness, in helping anybody I can regardless of their situation in life. I want to work towards building those bridges, narrowing those gaps and helping everyone to see everyone else’s unique position and contribution in our community.”
Tyers wants a more balanced city council, where social, cultural, environment and economy all have their place at the table – a progressive council open to change and trying new things.
“I think as a community and as a council we can do more,” she said in her letter. “We can be more supportive and appreciative of all aspects of the community. We as a council can work together with all people in the community. We can take the time to hear all voices and provide a more balanced decision making.”
