Advance and mail-in voting offered

Folks have voting options if they don't want to, or cannot, line up at the polling booth

General voting day for local government elections is Nov. 19 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. for qualified electors.

In the South Cariboo two advance voting opportunities, for the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) electoral Areas H and L only, will be held Nov. 9 and Nov. 14 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the CRD office, 175 Airport Rd., (South Cariboo Rec. Centre) in 100 Mile House.

The District of 100 Mile House will hold one advance-voting poll on Nov. 9 in the council chambers at 385 Birch Ave. (Fourth Street entrance only).

For the CRD elections, there is no need to pre-register to vote, as the registration of all electors will take place at the time of voting.

Both resident and non-resident electors will be required to produce two pieces of identification at the poll (at least one with your signature) that proves both residency and identity. Non-resident property electors must also produce proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and if applicable, have written consent from the majority of the property owners.

To ensure you will be able to vote, contact the CRD chief election officer or deputy chief election officer as there may be documentation requirements to be met prior to voting day.

The District of 100 Mile House uses the most current version of the Provincial Voters List. If you are not on the current voters list, you can register online through Elections BC at www.elections.bc.ca.

Mail ballot voting will be offered in both local elections for certain people who are physically unable to attend another voting opportunity or expect to be absent from their jurisdiction for all of those; or, in the CRD, live more than 90 kilometers from the closest polling station.

To vote by mail ballot, contact the chief election officer or deputy chief election officer for specific requirements and obtain a package by 4 p.m. on Nov. 17.

All mail ballots must be received by the chief election officer no later than 8 p.m. on Nov. 19.
