City slickers and farm kids can come together at Metchosin 4-H.

Registration for the year begins Saturday, Dec. 8.

The club offers programs for youth six to 21 years old.

The Cloverbud program is offered for six to eight years olds and allows kids to explore all aspects of farming.

For youth aged nine to 21 there are two programs to chose from, poultry club  and the horse program.

In the poultry program the 4-Hers learn how to care for poultry and build their own chicken coops plus they get two chicks to raise at home.

“It will promote raising backyard chickens,” said Debbie Cooper, 4-H leader.

The horse project is for beginners who will learn how to groom and tack a horse.

“I want to promote animals for kids who don’t have horses,” Cooper said, adding she’d like to offer more advanced programs in the future.

Each program meets once a month from January to October and the cost is $140 per child for the year.

To sign up for a program go the Metchosin Community House, 4430 Happy Valley Rd., on Dec. 8 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
