A purpose-built apartment building providing “affordable market rental” units could be on the rise near Terminal Park.
The City of Nanaimo has received a development permit application from Roche Lookout Holdings Inc., which is proposing to construct a four-storey, 16-unit apartment building at 1421 Princess Royal Ave.
Dubbed Princess Royal Apartments, the development would have eight one-bedroom units, four one-bedroom units with a den, and four two-bedroom units, according to planning documents available on the city’s website. Units would range from 610 square feet to 925 square feet in size.
Amenities such as bike storage, indoor and outdoor common areas, elevator access and underground parking would also be included in the development, which has been designed by local architecture firm Raymond De Beeld Architect.
Raymond de Beeld, principal architect, told the News Bulletin the units will be “affordable,” but didn’t provide specifics. The units will not be subsidized.
An existing building on the property would be demolished in order to make way for the apartment building.
Roche Lookout Holdings is owned by Tony Harris, according to city documents.
