Both wildfires in the Agassiz-Harrison area remain under control as the 2021 wildfire season in B.C. approaches 250 fires as of Tuesday (May 25).
A 13-hectare fire north of Harrison Mills near Sts’ailes First Nation and a 17-hectare fire on the east side of Harrison Lake have not yet been declared out, according to B.C. Wildfire Service. Spokesperson Dorthe Jakobsen said the sites of the wildfires have been under control for a few days as of publication but firefighters continue to monitor and patrol the area prior to officially declaring them “out.”
The Sts’ailes area fire was located 5.5 kilometres up Chehalis Forest Service Road not far from Kwikwexwelhp Healing Village; the minimum security facility as not in immediate danger. This fire is believed to be human caused, but the exact causes are still under investigation as of press time.

The Harrison Lake fire was discovered last week in the Silver Creek area and grew to 22 hectares at its peak. These two wildfires mark the second and third wildfires in Agassiz-Harrison this year with the first burning on Mount Woodside on April 14.
