Even though most of them are still too young to vote it isn’t going to stop students at a local high school from getting politically involved.
Students and staff at Stelly’s Secondary School are partnering with the Central Saanich Community Association (CSCA) Wednesday, April 19, to host an All Candidates Debate prior to the upcoming provincial election.
“The hope is it will empower students to become more engaged and active in civic affairs, hopefully fostering a practice that will be ingrained by the time they reach adulthood and are able to vote themselves,” said Celeste Zimmer, CSCA chair.
Zimmer said the students will be involved in every aspect of the event; from co-moderating, to promoting, to questioning candidates.
The debate will be held in the Stelly’s Secondary School multipurpose room from 7 to 9 p.m., doors open at 6:30 p.m. This is a free event and open to the public. For more, visit cscommunityassociation.ca.
