Port Alberni RCMP are seeking witnesses after one person was airlifted to the hospital following a motor vehicle collision on Cherry Creek Road on Saturday, March 6, 2021.
The Cherry Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Port Alberni RCMP were called to a collision between a dirt bike and a pickup truck on Cherry Creek Road near Owen Road at 3:25 p.m.
The fire department and off duty medical personnel provided emergency first aid to the operator of the motorcycle. He was later transported to the hospital via air ambulance with “serious injuries,” said Cherry Creek Fire Chief Lucas Banton.
An air ambulance landed in the field at the First Baptist Church in order to transfer the patient from ground ambulance to the helicopter.
Cherry Creek Road was closed for a few hours afterward as collision analysis and reconstruction was conducted by emergency personnel. According to RCMP, initial information suggests the motorcycle may have crossed into the path of the pickup.
The driver of the pickup truck remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, said RCMP.
“The swift actions of the Cherry Creek Fire Department and medical professionals that assisted have had a positive impact on the injured rider,” said Sgt. Peter Dionne of the Port Alberni RCMP in a press release. “While he remains in hospital with significant injuries he is expected to recover.”
Dionne says investigators are interested in speaking with any witnesses to the incident or anyone who may have home or dash camera video related to or preceding the collision. Anyone with information can contact the Port Alberni RCMP detachment at 250-723-2424.
