District plans to develop the Vanderhoof airport are moving along steadily with the recent subdivision of five lots of land for business use.
“Council decided to subdivide some land that had been taken out of the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR),” said Vanderhoof Mayor Gerry Thiessen.
“We spoke to some prospective purchasers and we were surprised that all five lots were spoken for that same morning,” he said.
Two of the businesses who have agreed to purchase the lots include air charter service Guardian Aerospace, and Bid Construction.
Bid have recently started work on the construction of a hanger on their one acre subdivision at the airport.
Thiessen says there are at least two more parties interested in purchasing land at the airport so council will be sub-dividing some more property in the near future.
“It’s a very exciting time for us – it’s moving along, it’s very positive and we will continue to go down that road,” said Thiessen.
“This will bring a lot more business to the airport – we are really trying to get more activity and diversify our income out there.”
