At 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday, police found a 27-year-old Port Alberni man suffering from chest wounds in an alley in the 4500 block of Burde Street, an RCMP news release noted.

The man was transported to West Coast General Hospital, and later airlifted to hospital in Victoria. The man is recovering from surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, RCMP Cpl. Colin Banks said.

RCMP later arrested and charged Port Alberni resident Jonathan Durocher, 31, in connection with the incident. Durocher was identified by witnesses at the scene and was arrested at his residence one block away without incident. He is appearing in Port Alberni Provincial Court on Thursday.

The victim and Durocher know each other, and both are known to police, Banks said.

If anyone witnessed the crime or can provide further information about it, they are asked to contact the local detachment at 723-2424 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.
