(Updated to include suspect sketch, July 28, 2014)
On July 23rd, 2014, at 3:41 pm, Port Alberni RCMP responded to a report of a sexual assault which occurred in the 4500 block of Roger Street. The victim advised officers that she heard a knock at the door and then soon after discovered the man inside her residence. The man was armed with a knife and sexually assaulted the victim before fleeing the home in an unknown direction, according to an RCMP media release.
Police combed the area and utilized the Police Dog Services in their search however no suspect was located. The Serious Crime Unit is now managing this investigation.
The victim is recovering from the assault and is receiving support from Victim Services along with friends and family.
The suspect is described as:
Caucasian male
Approximately 50 years old
Gray wavy hair
Approximately 5’7″ tall with a medium build
Clothing: Wearing a black coloured long sleeved shirt, black pants, white older Nike running shoes, and black gloves.
The suspect drives a vehicle which is described as:
Black full size regular cab 2-door pickup truck (no canopy)
Tinted black rear window
Black cargo storage container in the box
“Our investigators are working to determine if this was a crime of opportunity or a targeted attack and we are asking the public to be vigilant and report all suspicious activity to us.” said Inspector Mac Richards, officer in charge of the Port Alberni RCMP Detachment.
Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect and/or the vehicle and are requesting that anyone who may have information relating to this incident contact the local RCMP Detachment at (250)723-2424 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
