A retired Port Alberni man escaped serious injury after falling down a 30-foot embankment near his trailer home.
Emergency crews responded to calls of a man trapped down an embankment at 10 a.m. Wednesday near the Cougar Trailer Park on Johnston Road, Cherry Creek Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Sparrow said.
“His neighbour found him and he may have been there for awhile. The neighbour threw down a rope that he hung on to so he didn’t slide any further,” Sparrow said. “I don’t know how old he is but he looked past retirement age.”
Firemen from the Port Alberni Fire Department and Cherry Creek performed a rope rescue to retrieve the man. “He looked like he sustained a few injuries but there didn’t appear to be anything life threatening,” Sparrow said.
A spokesperson with BC Ambulance confirmed that they took the man to West Coast General Hospital where his condition is unknown.
