A father accused of contravening a custody order turned himself into police on Monday, along with his three-year-old son.
At 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 27, Malin Nyhus took his son Elijah, who was unharmed, to the Wetaskiwin RCMP Detachment.
Malin was being held for a judicial interim release hearing, and Elijah was reunited with his mother.
On Dec. 24, 2021, at about 3 p.m., Wetaskiwin and Camrose RCMP were dispatched to a report of a father contravening a custody order.
Wetaskiwin RCMP’s investigation indicated the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench had issued an order on Dec. 23, 2021, directing that Elijah to be returned to his mother by 3 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2021.
Wetaskiwin RCMP did not believe the child was in danger of serious harm or death so the case did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.
Elijah and his father were both last seen in Red Deer the evening of Dec. 24.
