For the second day in a row, school buses are cancelled in the Quesnel School District because roads have been deemed unsafe for travel.
“At approximately 5 a.m. the Transportation Department determined, in consultation with appropriate sources, that most rural bus routes were unsafe for school bus travel,” states the school district’s website. “Student safety is our top priority.”
Schools are open, and teachers will be in attendance at schools. Where there is sufficient attendance, regular instruction will take place.
However, if all students cannot attend, the regular program will not be offered and students attending will receive instructional support, be offered study sessions, and/or review, according to the school district.
Environment Canada is reporting the temperature is 1 C, as of 5:23 a.m., and fog patches are expected to dissipate this morning.
DriveBC is reporting that Nazko Road has compact snow and slushy sections, and there is black ice and slippery sections between Blackwater Road and Hawk Road. The website also warns drivers to watch for slippery sections on Highway 97 and is reporting black ice between Ross Road and Olson Road, for 80.2 kilometres, from 39 kilometres south of Quesnel to 24 kilometres south of Hixon.
Black ice is also being reported on Highway 26 for 25 kilometres from Quesnel to Norton Creek Road, and DriveBC also warns of slippery sections on the highway for 56 kilometres from Sorum Road to Barkerville.
