The chambers of commerce in both Port Hardy and Port McNeill are giving voters an opportunity to meet, and ask questions of, the candidates who want to represent the North Island in the B.C. Legislature.
The Port Hardy Chamber of Commerce is organizing a forum for Monday, April 24 from 6-9 p.m. at the Port Hardy Civic Centre. The doors open at 5:30 p.m.
The Port McNeill Chamber of Commerce is organizing a forum for the next night, Tuesday, April 25 from 7-9 p.m. at The Gate House Theatre.
“Since the Chamber is an advocate for business, on both a practical and political level, we feel it is important to host the all candidates meeting,” said Port McNeill Chamber of Commerce President Gaby Wickstrom. “It’s about becoming informed on the issues and the candidates in order to choose an MLA that will have the best interest of our region at heart. Our Chamber chooses to be non-partisan, forming relationships with all of the candidates and parties.”
“You vote is your voice,” said Elizabeth Aman-Hume, the executive director of the Port Hardy Chamber of Commerce. “We encourage members of our community to take advantage of this opportunity to meet the candidates and to learn more about their platforms.”
The moderator for the Port Hardy forum will be Dennis Dugas. The chamber is asking residents to email their questions (directed to all candidates) to ddugas@porthardy.ca before noon on Friday, April 21.
Both forums are open to the public and free to attend.
The provincial election is May 9. The candidates seeking the North Island seat in the Legislature are: Sue Moen (Green Party), Dallas Smith (B.C. Liberals) and Claire Trevena (NDP).
