The recently purchased BearCat armoured rescue vehicle was deployed for the first time in Abbotsford Thursday night when police raided an apartment and arrested a man allegedly connected to the UN Gang.
The bust occurred in the 30500 block of Blueridge Drive. Three people were in the unit, and police found cocaine in crack and powdered form, cash and two bulletproof vests.
Chadwyn Weber, 32, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. The two others – a 24-year-old Abbotsford woman and a 21-year-old Chilliwack man – were released on promises to appear with future court dates.
Police are also pursuing charges related to the possession of the body armour.
Weber previously served time in prison for assault and possessing a firearm without a licence, according to the online provincial court database.
Const. Ian MacDonald said the UN Gang is one of the groups currently fighting for control of the drug trade in Abbotsford.
