Penticton voters taking advantage of advance polls

There’s no telling how they voted, but Penticton residents did make use of the two advance polls the city has held so far.

“We had 1,000 people at City Hall the first day (Oct. 10), which was great,” said chief election officer Laurie Darcus. “Unfortunately, we had a little bit of capacity issues because the biggest room we can only set up four tables.

“Some people waited about fifteen to twenty minutes.”

The second advance poll was held Oct. 13 and Darcus said they also had a good turnout.

“Saturday, at the KVR, we had lots of room, and we had 861 voters,” said Darcus. “We had more capacity at the KVR school because it was a much bigger room. So it was steady, but never super busy. “

How people voted will have to wait until the general election day on Oct. 20.

“Under the legislation, I can’t run the totals until the end of the general voting day, so we have no idea what the results are,” said Darcus. There will be one more advance poll, on Thurs., Oct. 18, at the Seniors’ Drop-in Centre (2965 South Main St.) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
