Amrit Manhas will take over as interim chief executive officer after the board fired former CEO John Hankins earlier this week.
The Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation announced today it has appointed Manhas, listed as an economic development officer on its website, to oversee daily operations while it pursues options for a new CEO.
It will be the fourth time the NEDC has hired a CEO since it began in 2011.
“We, the board of the NEDC, have the full confidence in the abilities of staff to continue to do the great work of the organization,” said NEDC board chairman Andre Sullivan in a press release. “We think the Nanaimo region has great potential for economic growth and we look forward to helping our community thrive.”
The NEDC board fired its CEO on Tuesday, a day after Hankins sent an opinion-editorial and spoke to media about his questions and concerns around a city’s decision to pull tourism from the corporation.
More to come.
