It’s been nearly a month since a deadly collision on Hwy 97, and since then a petition to install safety barriers has garnered over 26,000 signatures.
The goal of the petition is to reduce the likelihood of serious collisions on the stretch of highway between Summerland and Peachland.
On Jan. 16 2020, a southbound vehicle lost control and entered northbound lanes where it was hit by a transport truck. A passenger in the car was found deceased at the scene.
In January the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) said that in addition to reviewing the serious incident, their engineering team was analyzing the potential need for a median barrier.

MOTI confirmed yesterday they continue to carry out their analysis. An update is expected later in the spring.
In January they said the safety of the travelling public is their top priority, and gave their thoughts to the friends and families of those involved in the tragedy.
