Annual Turkey Shoot set to blast off New Years Day

Williams Lake Sportsmen's Association hosts the trap shooting event

The annual New Year’s Day Turkey Shoot will be taking place as usual Tuesday, Jan. 1 2019.

The event will get underway at 10 a.m. and will wrap up around 3 p.m. with a soup and sandwich lunch available for $7 per person and is hosted by the Williams Lake Sportsmen’s Association.

The burn barrel will be lit and the trap house will have heaters on to keep participants nice and warm for the event.

Categories include novice, intermediate and expert and will include various trap shooting games such as Annie Oakley, buddy shoot, three-bird buddy shoot, buckwackers, trap shoot and sliders.

Annies are where three shooters mount their guns, the first calls for the bird and shoots. If she or he hits, no one else can shoot and she or he is safe. If the first shooter misses, the second shooter shoots.

There is no sign up fee for the event, however, it costs $6 per shoot to enter.

Contestants have a chance to win meat prizes such as turkeys, ribs, sausages and bacon.

The event is being held at the gun range located at 920 Bond Lake Road.
