An anonymous resident has been posting uplifting letters on the doors of Fernie businesses in celebration of this year’s World Kindness Day.

Redefining the essence of Friday the 13, the letters not only cheered up those who received them, but also reminded the community of how impactful and easy it is to spread love.

“I just wanted to say that I hope you have an amazing day,” wrote one of the letters.

Among recipients of the letters were Lynda Gawryluk, owner of Cherished Memories Funeral Services Ltd., and City of Fernie staff – both of which posted about the act of kindness on their Facebook pages.

“Take a moment today to be kind to yourself as this world is a better place because you’re in it,” wrote Gawryluk’s letter in rainbow markers.

“You’re making a difference and you’re doing a great job.”

The letters initiated a ripple effect of kindness as many residents furthered the words of praise on Gawryluk’s Facebook post.

Despite all the changes and challenges the world has faced this year, the letters go to show that love is not only resilient, but also contagious.

World Kindness Day began back in 1998 as a way to encourage the spreading of compassion and goodwill. The event, overseen by international non-profit The World Kindness Movement, is now celebrated in over 27 countries around the world.
