Residents have been allowed back into an apartment in Nanaimo after being evacuated due to a fire earlier this afternoon.
Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at the residential building on the 300 block of Prideaux, between Fitzwilliam and Franklyn streets, around 1 p.m. Saturday. According to Capt. Mark Walker, of Nanaimo Fire Rescue there were no injuries.
“Apparently, there was a fire in a closet, not sure how it started,” said Walker. “The tenant was home at the time, the tenant was able to get out and it was contained to that one apartment.”
Walker said some of the building’s residents were evacuated, with some tenants getting out on their own and some requiring assistance due to mobility issues.
The fire did not cause any structural damage as it “did not breach any dry wall,” said Walker.
The all-clear was given around 1:45 p.m.
