A fire that gutted an Argyle Street building in Alberni was deliberately set and police are searching for who did it, RCMP said.

A fire that gutted an Argyle Street building was deliberately set and police are searching for who did it, RCMP said.

Fire and police officials finished their investigation on Saturday and concluded that the fire which started inside the building is suspicious, an RCMP press release said.

Port Alberni Fire Department responded to the fire early Friday morning. The fire was large enough that Beaver Creek and Sproat Lake fire departments attended, the RCMP responded, city crews were on hand and both BC Hydro and Fortis BC were involved.
