Arrests made after Lumby vehicle stolen

On Thursday, the RCMP were notified that a village truck had been stolen from the Pat Duke Memorial Arena

A Village of Lumby vehicle made the rounds.

On Thursday at about 6 a.m., the RCMP were notified that a village truck had been stolen from the Pat Duke Memorial Arena parking lot overnight.

“There was a report the truck had been reported seen at a Vernon Tim Hortons earlier,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

“Also at about 4 a.m., a truck matching the stolen vehicle description was reported as a suspicious vehicle possibly casing a residence along Highway 6 but the vehicle fled when the family dog started barking.”

The Dodge truck was later recovered on Highway 6, near Mountainview Avenue in Lumby, after police officers were called to a single-vehicle collision.

The 16-year-old male passenger was detained at the scene while the 17-year-old driver fled on foot from the area. He was later arrested for possession of stolen property.

Both Lumby residents have been released from custody and are expected to appear in court July 10 to answer to the charges.
