It could be a collaborative initiative with council that will help with funding for the Enderby Artists’ Initiative.
Council turned down a request from the group which was asking for $3,000 to help with publicity and advertising for their Courtyard Gallery on Belvedere Street.
“We explained to them it’s probably something we shouldn’t do as a council because then we’d have request for funds from everybody,” said Coun. Greg McCune.
Mayor Howie Cyr said the request would be discussed during the city’s 2014 budget deliberations.
McCune said council suggested to representatives Tatianna O’Donnell, Enderby Artists’ Initiative chairperson, and treasurer Virginia Halper that councillors and the mayor could pair up with an artists from the group.
The teams would then collaborate on some piece of art work, create it, then auction it off at an evening wine and cheese fundraiser.
“The gallery is quite interested in that,” said O’Donnell. “I think it’s always wonderful to get council working with artists in the community.”
O’Donnell said the idea will be discussed at the initiative’s executive and general meetings.
“We’re quite excited about being able to work with them, giving them an opportunity to find their own creativity. I think it’s a great idea.”
A non-profit organization, the Enderby Artists’ Initiative was appearing before council for the first time requesting funds.
